Distribution of Bilateral ODA for Health by Recipient Country

This map permits to observe the real transfers of resources from donor countries to recipient countries in support of health as well as the flows in the opposite direction, such as repayments of loans corresponding to previous lending for health programmes. Furthermore, the net values of ODA transfers or the balance of disbursements and repayments are shown here. It is possible to distinguish grants and loans as well as repayments of principal and interest. The amounts per capita of the population in recipient countries are shown here, which allow meaningful comparison and discovery of donor priorities with regard to the geographical allocation of aid for health.

Bilateral flows reflect the funding decisions of the respective donors both concerning the distribution and regarding the financial modalities and conditions, e.g. grants versus loans. To see the allocation of imputed multilateral ODA and total ODA transfers by recipient country go to the maps included in the menu for accessing the detailed results (still in process).

In order to facilitate further analysis of ODA allocation, namely with regard to criteria of need, such as income levels and disease burden, we combined the data on ODA disbursements per capita with a set of socioeconomic indicators. While the interactive map permits to observe the distribution patterns of different donors in an intuitive and individualized manner, the charts can be used to review the correlation with relevant determinants of health funding requirements. How to use:
If you want to look for ODA transfers going to a specific country just select the respective fund flow and year and then move the cursor to the respective country in the map or choose it from the list. The line chart permits to follow the trends over the years. The other types of available charts will give you a fast view of the ranking of all or selected recipient countries. Furthermore, you can change the threshold values and colours of the map legend, for example to highlight all countries, which received or repaid more than a certain amount per capita.
